They are just jealous that you are from a different place than them. Embrace your accent - they all want one but can't have it!

Some people just are not accepting of the way people talk differently. As for me, I think accents are cool. I pick them up very easily. I have sounded like I was born and raised in New York while I was training a woman at my work who was from New York. Also, when I was on holiday in Australia, I quickly picked up the English accent. I have also picked up on the southern drawl while visiting the southern states.

Hi I live in Louisiana and I do have an accent. It's what makes me unique. Just like your accent makes you unique!

It would be neat if your teacher got a tape recorder and let a few people in class record their voices and played it back.

I sound like a country girl and I have never lived in the country!

One of my best friends lives on Long Island. She used to live here, but is from N.Y. originally. So she has had both accents! Just not at the same time. : D

Just be yourself, find someone in your school that needs a friend and be one to them. It only matters what is in your heart, not how your accent sounds!
Kids can be cruel, I was picked on lots when I was in school. It is not fun. I have heard if you act like it doesn't bother you, they will leave you alone. When they start teasing, just SMILE and don't respond. Look at them like you feel sorry for them. That should cause them to find something else to entertain themselves with.
Also, I have found if you will begin to pray and ask Jesus Christ to help you, He will. He loves you.

Helllll certain. human beings prefer to pretend that rap isn't vocal track. it really is. might want to you take heed to a singer with an unsightly voice? NO. So why might want to each person take heed to a rapper with an accessory they did not like? An accessory is an entire voice and rapping relies upon totally on a persons'' voice. If someone had no voice, they would not be a rapper. So how human beings can take a seat there and lie and say that accents do not count number is previous me. i do not trust them. for sure they count number. this is vocal track. And for me, i will not take heed to rap from English rappers. They sound stupid. And this is not in basic terms their accents both. The issues they communicate about and the slang they use is thoroughly diverse. i don't like their voices and that i do not relate to their track fairly. i love English human beings, i love some English SINGERS, yet i'd not take heed to English rappers except they were in basic terms too sturdy to brush aside.

They don't recognize their own way of speaking as an"accent" although it is! Showing them your affected by their making fun is the best way to make it worse. Times when I was younger I had heard people say I had a Brooklyn Accent. I would just say "yup that's me just a Brooklyn girl with a big old Brooklyn accent, isn't it great?"You'll likely start sounding more like them and less like you after a while. Bottom line: Don't let it bother you too much, there are more important things to fuss over!

I think southern accents make you sound far less intelligent, and any other accent where you don't pronounce certain letters or you drop off endings, that can make you seem really unrefined. I have never had someone make fun of my accent, I suppose living in Ohio doesn't give you a really obviously weird one. I like how I speak, but I can't stand it when I can't understand someone speaking English because of an accent.

Narrow-minded people always make fun of what's different. Hopefully, the kids in your class will learn from the experience.

And, over time, your accent will drop, and you'll develop their accent. It's just how language works.

No , it doesn't really matter . But please understand that your accent is more noticeable to them because it's not what they hear on a daily basis. Don't you think that if someone from NY would come to NC it would really be noticeable? Try not to make it a big deal because sometimes when kids know they are bothering you they do it more. Let them get used to it, who knows eventually you might end up having a similar accent to some words. Be patient please. Peace and Love your way.

No, they don't matter. They're looking from the inside-out, so they can't hear that they have an "accent". I'm sure your accent is very cute to some people. Even if someone were perfect, they would be picked apart, especially when you're an adolescent. You're fine, they have the problem, keep your chin up : )
