Why Do I live my life in comparison? Am I unhappy with what my life is and what my circumstances are? I am young 20 yrs old and I feel like I am trapped in a box. When I see my peers living their lives I wish that I could change my life and become somebody completely diffrent. I guess it all boils down to not being satisfied with what I am or what I have. What can I do?

Your life is your own and that's the beauty of it. Unfortunately this modern world has shown us all the riches that we could have and, in doing so, compelled us never to be quite satisfied with what we have.

That can drive people to strive for better things, great. But it can also lead to some major problems, feelings like you have now.

The world in which we live can make you feel trapped, I know it makes me feel trapped sometimes. You just need to reguage and think what actually matters.

Does it matter where you live, how much you earn, what car you drive? If your parents were seriously ill, would a "good" job make you happy?

If you look after the people important to you, take care of yourself, spread a little happiness everywhere you go then maybe things will become clearer. Try not to judge yourself on other people's goals. Why do you want what you want? Where will that take you and how will it help?

Your happiness is important, you need some realistic and achievable targets and nobody else can set them for you. Work out for yourself what you want to have achieved today, this week, this month. Be realistic and go for something you know is actually possible. If you don't get there, don't get upset, look how far you actually came and learn from it.

Live YOUR life. The world no longer knows how to make itself happy, only to sell itself a promise of a better life.

Optional extras not included as standard.

Happiness comes not from getting what you want, but from wanting what you've got.

Take care

You need to empower yourself and not what the media or society gives you as an example. Try some soul searching to determine what you really like about the lives of others. What do you admire? Is it their work or play or relationship? Don't just compare your life to theirs, use it as inspiration!! You are so young and if you settle for being "in a box" now you won't make it to a ripe old age to regret it. Be bold and strike down the imaginary walls that confine you. It's all created by mind, change your mind-change your world.

Set goals for yourself, if your unhappy with the way your life is, Your young enough to change things. Forget about what your peers are doing, trying to keep up or constantly comparing yourself to them, your just short changing your self. Concentrate on yourself and what you are doing. Think about what would make you happy and go for it.

If you find something you enjoy doing ,it will help keep your mind and thoughts from over powering you. you are in a rut and feel depressed . it is a natural feeling. if you and your wife can find things to do together it will help both of you. you feel trapped in a box because you are in the common rut and you need to get out and enjoy your life and with your wife. also find things for you to do by your self.

Yeah, assess yourself. Change what you don't like. Work with what you do. Read about other people's lives who are not like you. Notice how strong and lucky anybody who ever did anything that mattered was. Then pick something and work toward it. Slowly lean into it I think.

Go back to school to better yourself, sometimes being in a relationship always makes you more content with your life. Schooling would probably make you more happy with your life if you go to school to get a degree in something you really like to do.
