i belive it was a spy from the union army after the civil war!

Alan Pinkerton formed the agency in 1850, he became famous for catching some assassins try to get Pres. elect Lincoln.
He was a security guard.

Pinkerton was actually hire by the railroads to catch Jessie James or some other infamous outlaw. That was the start of his company.
