I think it's a normal thing. Most kids go through it. It's probably that he knows what he is doing now & wants privacy. At 18 months old I doubt very seriously that it's any sign of potty training readiness like others have said. At that age he's probably far far from being ready to be trained. He's just noticing his body more & becoming more aware. Like someone else said rather crudely, you dont' go in public so he is wanting privacy too.

It is completely normal. He has figured out that it is something you should do in private due to being around adults, and he is starting to realize that he needs to use the potty! You can start reading potty books to him! I'm not saying potty train him, he is too young, but starting the reading and talking about it is fine and will prepare him. Don't worry, it is normal and they all do it!

He's showing you a sign of being potty trained already! My daughter is 17 months old and she doesn't hide somewhere she just kind of ducks her face so that we cant see her face. I think it's because they get embarrassed.

I agree with the first two answers. I also suggest you invest in books that cover the developmental stages of children. They're written to cover the age groups in the major developmental stages. Stay ahead of the game by always reading 4-5 years in advance so you'll know what to expect and can be prepared.

He knows that pooping in his diaper is wrong and maybe he is ready to be potty trained.

My son use to do that too. I think he's just displaying his human shame. I can't imagine how a kid gets thinking pooing is bad (who tells a kid that), but maybe the smell makes him think its bad so he has to hide. Could never figure it out myself.
Good thing though, he'll grow out of it...bad thing, I had trouble getting my son to poo in the potty until he got over the shame.

Sign of needing privacy. Good sign that he is on the road to potty training.

I guess he is probably really smart and knows that should be done in private, maybe he has witnessed you or your husband going "potty"
