I have a male parakeet and it can hardly stand. He sits with his legs out to the front instead of beneath him. He often shivers and doesn't move much. We removed him from the cage where we also have a female parakeet who was pecking above his nose in his weakness. We put him in a shoe box with paper towel on the bottom on a jar lid full of vitamin water and some food. Is there anything else we can do? Thanks

He eats, i don't think he's been drinking much though. We change the paper towel on the bottom when we see that water has been spilt or that there are droppings on it.

I think he's getting better, he's more active now, even flew out of the box a few times. Something is wrong w/ his left wing, he keeps stretching it and limps on his left leg...but he can finally balance on a perch and walk around a bit.

usually pet birds will get an obstruction in their gizzard. Since most pet birds don't have a chance to digest like a regular flight bird or chicken, the gizzard will get smaller on the inside. I advise you keep grit inside the cage.

When you cant find a vet that cares for birds, there is always something you can do. You should always place them in an aquarium with a sceen lid over a heating pad. Place pine shavings in the bottum of the aquaruim to keep the bird off the glass. Then place a towel over the top to keep the heat in. Heat usally takes care of 99% of bird illnesses if properly done at the right time when you see something wrong. Fresh food and water all the time too inside the aquarium.

All you can do is take him to the vet. The vet will test him to see if he's contagious. Parakeets can carry diseases that will not only be passed on to your other bird, but that may be passed on to you.

Cover the cage with the famale with a towel on three sides and keep her out of drafts. If she's going to survive she'll need calm and warmth. Don't let the cage get too hot though, or she'll die of heat exhaustion.

sounds like your bird picked up a bad cold. if he's not standing on its legs then he is weak as well.....its sad to say but when a bird catches a cold and it affects their ability to stand then their time is limited. does it eat? do you have the lid on the box or no? if so then you have him in darkness,,he will not eat that way. if yes then you can also provide a lite cover over part of the box to allow light but to help keep warmth in the box. look at his eyes and nose,,,,any drainage? if so then wipe its eyes with a warm cloth to remove it....try to keep its nose clear by doing the same. last question,,,,is it sitting in its own droppings? if so...you will also need to provide a clean paper towel under him OFTEN as to not have him sitting in it and to help keep it from caking on the under feathers.....good luck.

No, this is a parasitical birds egg. Cuckoos try this. Cowbirds try this, although they sell off the unique eggs. A parasitical chook lays eggs in yet another form birds nest and the the chook who's nest this is will enhance the parasites youthful. some species will wait until eventually hatching to offload the unique eggs, or kill the unique nestlings,. pass to suitable ten and ask chook woman for an id of the egg. i think of Indigo is applicable. I only have been given an identity at " Cow chook egg " in my handle bar and curiously like a tournament. This seems a version on familiar Cow chook dumping habit, although.

Its important you keep your bird VERY WARM,at least 90 degrees. Your bird is very sick and keeping him warm is a must for a sick bird, its about all you can do. You must continue to supply him with food and water! A note of caution here. You MUST get your bird to a vet as soon as possible. Birds will die very quickly without treatment.Keep your bird out of a draught, and in a quite place.

This bird needs to see a Vet ASAP. It sounds like it may die. Have you called a vet or Feed store to get some antibiotics for it?
You need to hurry, birds dies VERY quickly, sounds a bit late already.

You need to seperate him and place a light next to him to keep him warm in a small cage. make sure that you cove the cage to add extra warmth and give him antibiotics. this should take a few days to work and you will see an inprovement. otherwise take him to the vet an let them help him in the best way possible for him...... Thats so sad that he is sick..................

he definately needs vet attention, until; then, suspend a bed side lamp above the box, this will keep him warm and he wont have to use up all his energy trying to do this himself.
Make sure though, that he can walk over to a cooler spot if need be.
Best of luck
let me know how he goes?
