I want my daughter to start with cheerleading but it is so expensive. Is it worth it to have her start so young?

I guess it really depends on if You want her to be in cheer-leading or if She wants to do it. My youngest started dance at 3. She really wanted to because her sisters were starting dance too. We take "extras" like dance, sports and scouts a year at a time in our family. If they really want to do an activity they have to commit for at least one year or season. If they decide that it is not the thing for them they can quit after they complete their commitment. This has work great for us so far. I have two daughter that have danced for 6 years now, we have done countless seasons of softball (only my oldest still plays) my youngest does fall soccer (4 years now) we did a season of basket ball, all three have been in Girl Scouts since kindergarten and all three are now in the school orchestra's. Just watch, you don't want to get started in the competitive stuff right away...it gets way to intense especially if you are just trying it out for the first time.

I think that it is okay to put your daughter in cheerleading so young. I think that she will learn how to be active and have fun and do things that little kids do. Also she will learn a lot of valuable lesson like losing and winning and being a team player and helping others and sharing and she will have experiences with other little girls her age. However if after a couple of months she feels as though she really doesn't like it then don't make her do it. But find other things like gymnastic or dance classes.

Children at 3 do not always participate well in groups. It can be very stressfull for some.
There is plenty of time for your daughter to join cheerleading (or soccer or tennis...) Right now I would suggest getting her involved with a mommy and me type class (perhaps dance if she like taht sort of thing) They are usually available at the Park Districts for a very reasonable price.

A lot of people would say "Yes". I don't know, though.....I think kids are "pushed" entirely too young these days. While they may like what they are doing, I think starting too early can lead to burn-out.

It is best to wait until at least grade 3 or 4. They will understand much more and it won't seem like they are being forced to do it either.

Well, maybe you should ask her. Maybe she wants to try it, maybe not. and when she grows up, they offer chearleading at schools and it isn't expensive at all! let her decide. don't make decisions for her. and you might think she isn't old enough to make decisions. well, ask her and you'll find out if she's old enough.
