Yes. In New York City, you can enjoy the finest cuisine from all over the world. But North Carolina has the world's best pulled barbecue! Buttermilk biscuits! Frozen custard! Good ol' Southern cookin'! You can't have those in New York. I'm Japanese but love North Carolina cuisine! I envy you!

You will get use to it if you try. Southern cooking is so very different from the north that sometime you will feel like you are on another planet, but there are really good dishes out there that you will come across and fall in love with. My son went to college in New York and could never find anything but pizza that tasted as good as Texas home cooking, but that is what he was brought up on. Just hang in there, things will get better.

I think it's just personal preference, AND getting accustomed to the food in the new location, AND "shopping around", trying different foods where you are. All this is true, unless you are comparing the food in NYC's finest restaurants with the food in some dump in NC or anywhere else

Its normal to miss the food you're used to. Try Sticky Fingers in Wilmington if you're in the area for great Ribs, pulled pork and wings. I understand how you feel, I just moved to PA from Long Island and I miss our pizza.

You're insane. Go get some sweet tea and bbq, nothing beats it. I travel all the way to NC to eat (although my family thinks I'm coming to see them).
