You can copy files to a disk or to a flash drive, burn a cd, or dvd with the files.

Some complicated programs do not transfer as easily. You would be better off reinstalling the program from the original disk. The installation procedure would put the programs in one section of your hard drive, update the library files in another section, and update the registry. You do not get that by just transferring files.

should have mentioned, the models of the new and old ones. taking it that both are PC's . and u need to copy the data, like word documents, ictures, videos, etc, all you have to do is remove the hrd disc of the old one, connect it to the new computer and do a hard disc copy. For this you'll have to ask for someone who knows to do this, or if you have gutts, simply connect the flat white cord end to your old hard disk, and then do the copy.

If you are talking about copying an installed program from the old computer to the new one, its not possible, for this you need to have the setup of the program and install it afresh on your new computer, only data can be transfered.

or use a USB flash drive, its time consuming though.

or just burn the documents onto a cd, and then copy 'em onto the new computer, this has an added advantage that you'll automatically have back up of all these files.

There is no problems copying files from one PC to another. Use a USB key, a writable CD or even the Microsoft Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (on XP, under Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools).

However, for "complex" programs sur as Microsoft Office, Corel, etc., you can't just copy/paste directories. They usually install files (DLL, executables, etc.) in the Windows directory and in the system registry. So, to move them to your new PC, you'll need the Setup.exe file or the installation CD and reinstall them from scratch.

you can find software at staples or office max that will allow you to copy files from one hard drive to another. Or you can just hook up your old hard drive as a slave drive and use both hard drives. For example One hard drive will be the C: and the other could be an E: Unless you are very comfortable putting together a computer I would suggest going to staples and finding the software to copy over the information you want.
