Help! My boyfriend has had about 20 cases of Cellulitis in the last year. All over his body. Calf, thigh, groin area, arm pit, inside of nose, arm, stomach.... Everytime he gets it they put him on some anti-biotics, it goes away and then shows back up awhile later. I've done a lot of reasearch, he doesn't handle any of the triggers for it like working around soil, grease etc... please, any advice on this would help!

I have chronic cellulitis, and know it is horrible. Mine began seven weeks after I had a c-section. I have had about 5 cases of it total, each very scary. I get a big patch on my abdomen. I have been lucky that it has been over two years since it last occured. It could be possible they are not keeping him on meds long enough, or they aren't using a strong enough one. Has he seen a dermatologist or specialist? I know that's hard, because I always just end up at emergency and on an IV.

He is probably colonized with staph germs that are harbored in your nose. He'll need to use intranansal Bactroban 2X daily for 2-3 weeks and also follow strict hygiene rules until the infection clears. Another reason he is having frequent recurrences is that the staph germ hides while doing oral antibiotics then returns within a few days or weeks after stopping the drugs. Seeing an infectious disease Dr is also an excellent suggestion as he may also need oral or IV antibiotics. Make sure your sheets and pillowcases are changed regularly and washed in hot soap and water. Always wash your hands with soap - frequently. Search the questions and answers section for my previous postings on staph infections and cellulitis for additional ideas and information.

btw- If you are sleeping together then you are probably colonized also, even if you are not showing symptoms, and you should also do the intranasal Bactroban the same time as your boyfriend. Make sure neither of you is using drugs because this is another possible vector for chronic staph infections in otherwise healthy young people.

If this would me I would go to an infection control md. The next time a he has a case it needs to be cultured and you need to find out the culprit. Dr's sometimes have to guess what bacteria is causing this and the culture can tell you if that bacteria is resistant to that antibiotic. Infection control dr's deal with this exact thing each day. This actually happens to a lot of people, and it is often MRSA-a form of staph. If his blood sugar is elevated (poss diabetes) bacteria loves sugar and then the wound lasts longer and is more difficult for antibiotics to kill. I would go to his primary md and test blood sugar and get a referral for a infection control specialist.

It's amazing Paul "knew" that the Universe and everything in it was "created" (at the Big Bang) and has order to it, indicating a divine power's at work (God) and thus "proves" God's existence. How would Paul know this??? Jesus, the son of God, TOLD him. Paul's writings are, for the most part, actually HIS writings, unlike some writings of other Apostles. Paul SAW Jesus after His crucifixion and resurection - That's some pretty powerful stuff right there!!! Anyway, Read Garry Wills' "What Paul Meant"; It's an excellent, short (176 pages) book about Paul and his writings and his ties to Jesus and Christianity. Finally, don't forget that Christianity depends more on Faith and Belief than hard proof of God's existence, but Jesus was definitely real and wouldn't you rather believe in Him, than be wrong and go to Hell???

Look dear.you may chech his blood sugar level 1st of all as diabetes is a common cause of such problems.
Also he has to have x ray to various areas of his body as teeth, nose, prostate, the sinuses.....which may act as a septic focus being the source of reinfection every time.
Also, after identifying the source treatment must be full dose, full course.
After identifying the responsiple organism as demonstrated by culture specific antibiotic is given.
It is almost Staphylococcus aureus.
There r antibiotics like sodium fucidate that act specifically against staph.
A new generation of antibiotics is now available to wich resistance will not develop as fluroquinolones

Sounds like MRSA. He needs to be placed on a sulfa based antibiotic. MRSA is resistant to most antibiotics so a normal course of methicillin based anti biotics is useless! A long term regimen (6mos) of sulfa based antibiotics or some intravenous meds may be necessary.

Yes. They aren't treating him long enough to totally kill the problem. He needs to go into a hospital and receive anti-biotics by an IV.....mainline them. Whats happening to him is NOT right.

Another ugly problem that has come up is MRSA. This is a staff infection that is usually picked up in hospitals.....HOWEVER.....more and more cases are being seen out in the normal word. MRSA can get into your blood stream and then you have SERIOUS problems.

The doctor/s may be misdiagnosing his problem. It MIGHT be MRSA. Pops
