In general, diet and exercise will do the job. However, your question should be addressed to your doctor.

Hi Louise!

Your under active thyroid probably results in a slower than normal metabolism. Accordingly, you may have gained some weight.

The way to combat this is to break up your meals such that you eat small meals frequently. This revs up your metabolism above its baseline.

Since you are trying to lose weight, I would suggest you eat five meals averaging 300 calories each, such that you eat 1500 calories or below for the day.

In addition to this, try and stay active to keep your metabolism moving. Go for walks at lunch, go shopping, play with kids, etc.

If you do both of these I am quite confident that you will start to see progress within the week.

I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.

Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

Louise, my co-worker who I have mentioned in one of my answers about increase immunity is trying to loose weight with an under active thyroid using vitamins with probiotics. If you'd like the link, here it is, http://dontforgettotakeyourvitamins.com/derosa4424 so far he has be giving me good news about it and I wouldn't seem why it wouldn't work for anyone else under active thyroid if it's working for him. There are all ways but I keep in touch with who I know for what is working better for them. J.flarity, email me if you'd like.

Bless you for asking this question, I too suffer with a under active thyroid and have done for years, I would have asked myself but get fed up with people saying low fat diets, exercise and weigh watchers - they really dont work for us do they , no matter how hard we try. I look forward to more answers.

Try Chromium Piccolate. If you throw it into a search engine and ignore those that are trying to sell it to you there is some serious research for this stuff and I know for a fact that it stops sugar cravings and is being tested by the FDA for metabolic syndrome (obesity to you and me) Type II diabetes and aids. This is an essential mineral and just as essential fatty acids (EFA's) are at least beginning to be understood by mainstream medicine, these will not be far away.
Cheers and good luck

Accept the Law of Physics..you can't make matter out of nothing, this means if you eat less you should weigh less..be fair, you never saw a fat person come out of Nazi concentration camp but I'm sure there were inmates in there with your 'condition'!
This is not meant in a frivolous way.....
