Just learning about these now. Some folks said you can do classes while still in HS. Is that correct? My mom kept me back one year when I transferred so I am in the last year of Middle School now even though I should be in HS.

I found a website for a cosmetology school in our area, but it had classes in "Cosmetology & Hairstyling" Is that typical? Does that mean I have to learn about make up and beauty as well as hair stuff?

What sort of requirements do I need from school to go to Cosmetology school?

Thanks

Ash'

Yeah you could take cosmetology at my high school but you had to be at least a junior and take all the math and science prereq's but when you graduate from high school you have your license and a h.s diploma. Get in in high school because I didn't, I waited and paid $10,000 not to mention the 3% interest in student loans. If you take the classes at your high school ( that's if they offer them ask your guidance counselor) they are free.

I answered your previous question about this so I'll elaborate some more for you. I went my junior and senior years of highschool. I would attend highschool in the morning and then at lunch leave...I would attend beauty school in the afternoon. And yes the cosmetology school does require you to learn in all areas...manicures, pedicures, perms, hair coloring and so forth....but once you graduate you don't have to do anything in those areas if you don't want. The cost of my schooling was about $1200 I believe....and I earned credits going there that applied towards my highschool diploma. You don't need any requirements except your ability to pay the fees and that your school offers such a program. My school also had a mechanics program students could join and a t.v. broadcasting program as well that works just like the cosmetology school. Good luck.

Cosmetology is much more complicated than learning how to cut, color and style hair. You will learn a bit about anatomy and chemistry as well. As a licensed cosmetologist you will be able to do facials, manicures, pedicures as well as cosmetic application. There are some school systems that offer what is called a vocational program that you start I believe when you are a sophomore in high school. You may want to check with your local high school to see if they offer a vocational program.

well, at my HS there was a program for juniors and seniors to leave the HS and go to a technical school, like cosmetology.

so, ask your school administrators once you get into HS about technical programs, such as cosmetology.

as for the classes...
usually, cosmetology school will emcompass hair, nails, facials, make-up, etc....
think of all the services salons offer. i have a friend who does my hair, but she also gives a mean facial and does nails, too!

take care.
