there are many who turn to religion when things go extremely bad in their life. they dont know where else to turn. i think a majority grew up and were brain washed into their religion. different for every person. most of them dont have open minds though, they read it they believe it, they are told it they follow it. never any questions, never any doubt.

- then you have the group thats afraid to die, and all the christians telling them when they die they will be tortured for eternity if they dont believe...

Some use it as a crutch to get them through difficult times. Others use it as a scapegoat to blame all there difficulties on. Then there are people like me who do not "resort" to religion but incorporate it into our lives and allow it to make us better people.

Hmmm,

I would not call it resorting.

But Religion has been the last chance that people have had.

Religion has saved many people from an early death, some have to find the very bottom first, some don't.

Peace be with you!

it's a futile attempt to rationalize our insignificant existence as somehow being important. people just need to accept the fact that we are simply animals with larger brains and better communication skills than other primates and bury that primitive superstitious b.s. that is religion.

The phrasing seems to imply that people don't choose to follow a particular relgion, and instead only fall back on it in desparate times.

In times of need, uncertainty, or when they are most desperate... generally.

To atheists, "I don't know" means "I don't know."

To religionists, "I don't know" means "God did it."
