Yes, happens all the time actually. People with a diseased liver can sometimes have their's removed and a portion of a donor (friend, relative, etc) liver put in. Both people then have half a liver and I guess the body adapts.

Yes. Many do live quite well with only half.... It does regenerate over time unlike any other organ in the body.
