9 yrs old Large breed dog He did have diareha (sp) for 1 week after the episode(on meds for this and it cleared it up). After 2 mths his gums went white and we thought it might be meds that he was just put on for arthritus (Medicam & Tylenol)...figured out that the dose was way to high for him (medicam). A few times within a 2 week period He would pant (like he was going to have a heart attack) and not want to eat or walk first thing in the morning...but would eat within 30 minutes of being awake...again this only happened a few times within 2 weeks...lost 20 lbs in the last month while this was all going on..went to vet and he had a heart murmur..the very short part of this is I put him down and it just is not the same without him.I weighed the quality of his life..he was a large breed and theystartedtalking about moretests and meds and the poor thing has stomach problems his entire lifebut hadgreatlife I just was curious if the chicken bones could of been a hidden problem(myguilt)

The symptoms you describe sound much more likely to be related to the dog's heart condition than anything in his stomach. It sounds like it was a bit more serious than a heart murmer though. As someone before me indicated, chicken bones would have been digested fairly quickly. If you accidentally let him eat chicken bones don't be too hard on yourself. Just be more careful in future. Don't let this put you off getting another dog. If you were able to keep a dog with medical problems alive and healthy for 9 years you are a person that should have a dog. I know they leave a big hole in your life when they pass away and I am very sorry for your loss. You may not want to think about it right now but it is a dog-shaped hole that can never quite be filled by anything but a dog. The new dog can never fill it right away but can grow into that space and fill it over time.

I am sorry for your loss. The signs of chicken bones in the stomach can show up or may not happen at all. the risk of dogs eating chicken bones is that they may cause dammage to the digestive tract in many different ways as they travel throught the system. ******A Veterinarian is the best person to consult for updated advise.******

It could have been MANY different things. He was a 9 yr old large breed, he was old. I wouldn't feel guilty, probably not the chicken bones.

Chicken bones would not survive for two months in his stomach. They would have been dissolved long ago.
I'm sorry for your loss, but it sounds like he had problems completely unrelated to chicken bones - don't beat yourself up over it.

If there was black blood in his stools, yes. I am so sorry you had to do that. It sounds like he was suffering though. I don't believe chicken bones can cause anemia though. I'm sorry. :(
