are there any guys out there in their late twenties that think that being a player is only for the "new" generation? (teens and early twenties)
is it actually possible for an older guy to be really sweet, or is he a player?

Not sure if I understand the question, but it sounds like to me you've been played more than once, by younger guys...
I'm a former player, but I don't like the term, because it has a negative vibe to it...
I was playing any women, promising something that I never delivered I just wanted to date alot and have some fun which I did...found my current gf, and we've been happy together for a year.
Just becuase a guy is player as you say doesn't mean he isn't sweet. Be careful that you're not making a prejuidace statement, and think that sweet guys are NOT players and visa versa...

I'm not a player, so I wouldn't know, but a dude in my band is and hes never around his girl.

Depends if you're hot or not, if you're not, then you will only be used for drunken sex, if you have other attributes than you have a better chance.
