DVD-R and DVD+R are both formats for recordable DVD drives,
Computer DVD drives can read & write both equally well.

The older format is DVD-R, and it's supported on almost all DVD players. The newer format is DVD+R and its supposedly more reliable and faster for writing, but not as many DVD players support it. So if you burn your favorite movie onto DVD+R, older DVD players probably won't be able to play it...
