yes. I used to work in a bank and we would take copies of all ID for opening accounts and large withdrawals.

NO if you photocopy it 20 times and pin it up all over the office so that everyone can have a good laugh at the stupid picture of me (sorry i mean - of someone) from 10 years ago with a dodgy grin and wild frizz hair

It is ok to take a copy of the passport if you have a valid reason.

Yes, but its illegal to reproduce one or make a facsimile of one, in other words make a copy of one for illegal use. As a record, I have copied mine and my daughters in case they are ever lost. Banks, schools, employers and employment agencies do it all the time.

I believe it is ... and ... it's a good idea to keep a copy of your passport, seperate from your passport when you're on vacation, just in case ......

yes. employers may copy and banks, customs and the police will all take copies for proof of id should they ever need to.
