First of all you would need to know if the group that you donated to is a authorized charity. You can ask them if they are a 501(3) organization. Secondly they should give you a receipt with a description of the items donated. It is your responsibility to establish the value. That is normally done by determining the fair market value of like items sold on the open market. You may need to do a little research.

First of all, gross, second of all they have to give you a receipt stating you donated the hair, and then you claim the value of it on your taxes. Usually the company accepting any tax deductable donation has to give you an estimate of cost.

First: Locks of Love only accept human hair that are lat least 10 inches long.
Second: Unless you can prove your financial sacrifice, there is no tax deduction.
