From your description I would have to say. It sounds like a burned out fusible link near the starter.

here's my 2 cents.

Have your alternator checked. There is a diode that blows out and lets battery current go back to ground, so when the alternator is turning it charges the battery, and when you stop the engine the alternator lets the battery drain dead overnight. Take your alternator to any Murray's or Autozone, etc and have them check it for "backflow".

The only other thing, once I had a starter that worked but was in the process of going bad.. It required such a draw from my battery that I thought the battery was dead. Bought a new starter and vrooom!

Tried the Alternator? Sounds like the Alternator is not providing enough power to run the car so it is draining the battery.

Try this start the car (jumpstart it)
Let it run a bit, disconnect the battery.
Turn on the headlights, if it dies its the alternator.
If it lives, the alternator is still providing enought amps to keep the car running on a load. Take the battery in to have tested, it may have a dead cell.

Have you checked the Alternator? Check the battery with an ohms meter. Before you start it, It should read 12v. while it is running the battery should read around 15v.
Good luck.
