You mean the anal glands? Annual means once a year. Dogs usually do it by themselves when you see them scoot around your carpet. Get a vet or a groomer to do it and ask them how to do it. I would not recommend doing this yourself as it stinks to high heaven. Just think... they are rubbing this all over your carpet. Which is why I do not have a dog.

The anal glands are cleaned by squeezing around the anus, using a paper towel to catch what comes out. I can't quite force myself to do it, so I take my dog to a groomer who does this for $5.

They are ANAL glands NOT ANNUAL glands. You need to take your dog to your vet to have then expressed correctly

My vet recommended that I not try it. I asked because I felt silly bringing a dog to the vet to have that done and wondered if it was something I should be able to do- you know like nail trimming.

My vet said something about if it's done wrong it can hurt the dog?? I know for sure they can get infected- my dogs did.

Put you finger in the anus and squeeze each gland between your thumb and finger . It is not pleasant and the dog will complain.

Its anal, not annual, lol. And you need to be shown in person if you havent ever done it before.

Since you only do it "annually", I would pay a vet.
