The U.S. post office is one great source of art for your walls. If you buy a block of stamps (4) in a series with a subject matter that appeals to you or one that you find particularly attractive and double mat them in complimentary colors, you can put less than $2 worth of stamps into a large enough frame to make it look important. A whole set of these pictures in large frames on a wall has big impact for little money. Another idea is to make a large collage on a stretched artists canvas using torn pieces of beautiful, decorative handmade paper like you find in art supply stores or even craft stores. Apply to the canvas using a decoupage medium. This same collage idea can be used on a smaller scale and a group can be matted and framed like the stamp collection. They will look like small works of abstract art when viewed from a distance. You can make tiny "quilts" by attaching small squares of pretty fabrics in a nice pattern to a piece of poster board with spray adhesive. Once you have several small "quilts" made, mat, frame and hang in a row on wall for a modern look. Hope this gets you thinking.

Go and take a bunch of pictures of your loved ones or your animals or pretty things in your yard. Then go to a developing place that can put your pictures on a disk. On one of those machines where you can make and crop your own pictures--pick the ones you like and crop them artistically. Maybe you have a close up shot, head on, of your grandma...maybe you will crop it so that you can only see half of her head.
After that, make them into black and whites or sienna or keep them in color (depending on your decor) Blow some up very big and keep others small.
Pick out frames that work with your decor (sometimes it is fun to have a bunch of similar but different frames) and spend some time matting and framing them. Hang them at different heights.

My gosh... I could go on for ages and ages about creating (not making) art to hang on your walls. Perhaps you can give us an idea of what kind of decor we are dealing with. I would hate to give you ideas that won't serve you any purpose. Let us know and I'll come back and give you LOTS of ideas. I am a home stager and artist so I'll really be able to help you out... just narrow down the subject a bit please.

Go to any store like Walgreens or Walmart or anywhere you choose and by canvaas and some oil based paint. You can make collages by cutting out pictures of what you like and frame them. Take some pictures with camera and have them blown up and framed. You can do just about anything. God Bless and good luck.

Try carefully cutting out a favorite picture from a magazine or calendar. Then use something like "Art-Tac" to put it on the wall. I "hang" photographs this way.

For one of my clients...I took their favorite picture and made 20 black and white copies of it and matted and framed them all the same and hung them on the same wall and put a very very tall red vase next to it and made black and white pillows and placed them next to the vase.
When they had thire house warming party, everyone loved the pics and actually kept staring at them and actually thought they were all different.

String painting looks pretty cool. You take cords of string and dip them in paint, then you lower them down onto a piece of canvas or paper. The string will make unique designs as it begins to hit the paper.
