the enemy works through many vessels and if you read Ephesians as well as other books of the Bible it tells us we are to fight and take a stand against the enemy......when it says we are to turn the other cheek...that isnt saying we must lay down and allow evil to have its way in our lives.....we are to pray for our enemies but we are also to stand against them....

Here is the Christian's defense:....
Eph 6:13-17
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Hi Chris,

Romans 13- does talk about submitting to government/authorities (kings and rulers) and so in the case of war- we are to obey government (Unless we are commanded to do something that violates Godliness).

Murder has the idea of a malicious desire to hurt someone- for soliders and policeman their roles often will include the possibility of killing someone in self-defense or to prevent a greater evil.

hope that helps,

Nickster

It is I believe in the old testament where God says in the event of war, we are not to lift a sword for the lord shall fight the battle for us. That is all I can remember at this time. Oh yeah and ecclesiates 3:3 says there is a time to kill

James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

That's the best I could come up with. I suppose that'd apply to defending ourselves against The Enemy.

...mayhaps not exactly self-defense against an enraged man, but it's time for me to make dinner. ^_^

Your best defense is Love your enemy--in this way God is glorified and He will protect you--funny thing, you should ask for kindness----Roman 12:20, 21

I seem to recall a line about an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Don't see to many other ways to interpret it.

Actually, the contrary.

If a man strikes you on the cheek, offer him also your other cheek. If a man steals your cloak, offer him also your tunic.

Sorry, that was from memory, can't cite chapter and verse, but Jesus said it.
