conditions of the poor must be improved if we really want to save our environment.
How do you perceive this phrase and how do you relate the environment and poverty?
I would like you to think globally and include the developing world in your thoughts.

Silverbirch,
I agree, it is a huge issue and in the limited space given here, we can plow just some seeds. It is also true that usually, people is discussing this argument sitting in comfortable chairs.

What a wonderful thought ETA and a concrete proposal. Let’s start thinking about it. Humanitarian aid has multidimensional degrees of complexity, as we refer to a wide range of people having different educational and cultural level. Quite often, local problems have international interest. The water purity, is one of them but unfortunately, there are also other problems of local interest, like diseases caused because of vitamins deficiency and hunger. The bottom up community-based approach is considered the most effective community education strategy. One more time, I feel that it is never too late to start building the utopia that will allow us to share the earth. I believe in volunteering and I volunteer myself in the frame of my abilities. As a UN web volunteer, I have followed a lot of web discussions and I am just asking why the result is so poor, after all these efforts.

A good question at this point is what is the follow up of these projects and the evaluation models followed?

This topic is near an dear to our whole family,as we recognize the need to develop support for poor children an their parents who or forced to cut down what little wood they have ,an thus affect the environment in the process. That's why people such as my adopted father is involved in technologies that keep family's in water an fuel, that are gentile to their environment,an their ability,or lack of money ...to by parts for pumping water an making fuel from methane. This is best, for the kids can actually help,an not being forced to miss school .They have hours free to play,an while doing so they pump water for their village. Thus having time to attend school ...instead of trekking for hours hunting for fuel,an carring water.I am saddened to see ETA has removed his answer.I know his feelings on this ,an I know he will be back with a more receptive answer... that is certain,as I have spoken to him about this question.Thank you ,for asking this question,it provides people access to vital info, on how to find sites that can help them decide ,on how best to get resources to those who need it...that or being used successfully.I will post a site again, to just one, that I deal with.Again ... thanks much for this question ...an the opportunity to help any way I can.As any teacher knows, you teach only when the student is,warm, thirst is quenched,an with food in the stomach.Any teaching before that is obsecene.

A potentially huge answer, ans as it's gone 11 o'clock, I'm starting to get tired.

So the short version.

People who are struggling to live from day to day will put environmental concerns fairly low on their list of priorities. So out goes sewage treatment, recycling, sustainable farming and forestry & education. They will take low paid jobs, which means that factories can cut corners and have highly polluting activities that we would not go near.
