I thought of getting a dog. i am 15 years old and would like to get a golden retriver. I have the money because i work. In my home country we had a cat, my mom disliked him very much because he was not trained to poop where he ws supposed to and he destroyed some walls as in scratching them. how should i ask my parents about this. please help anyone.

I say good luck with that one. Cats are pretty easy to train as far as litter boxes, so if your mom disliked the cat, I doubt she'll let you get the dog. Puppies can be hard to deal with- as far as potty training, vet visits, teething, ect.

Good luck. If nothing else, ask your mom really nicley and insist that'll you'll be 100% responsible for the dog. If she still says no, I say drop it.

Your only 15, why get a dog, your growing up and you will soon be going out a lot etc, to a 15 year old, that would be like having a child. They are not just for Christmas they are for life, and if looked after properly, they could live for 15 or 16 years, why tie yourself down at such an early age.

Sorry to sound like a killjoy.

Dogs are wonderful animals. Golden retrievers make great pets, but they shed tons of fur. If you really want to get a dog, and are willing to pay for all of his shots($300), neuter/spaying($200-400), flea and tick meds($80) heart worm meds($55), his food and supplies($500), heavy grooming costs(about $70 every 8 weeks), and his miscellaneous supplies($400), then all you have to do is convince your mother that you're able to take care of him, clean up his vomit in the car, clean up his pee and poop incase he leaves a nasty surprise in your living room, and train him not to jump up on people to avoid lawsuits, bathe him every few weeks, pluck the hair out of his ears, clip his nails, clean his eyes, and take him for lengthy excercise walks in order to keep him from being restless and destroying your house.
You have to do your research on everything you will need to do to keep and own a dog his size. the web is a great place to start.

you have to be really responsible.retrivers are great, but don't close down other options.ask mom, and if she says yes, look at the shelter first, because alot of dogs in there would love to be your buddy. good luck!
