The Roman empire in it`s declining years adopted Christianity as it`s official religion,and all the dogma that goes with it.Could it be said that the Roman empire, through catholic christianity is still doing fine and well in the world as we know it.

The emperor realised how much easier it is to control people with the promise of eternal torment in the afterlife than it is to control them with the promise of some temporary torment in this one.

Yes.

They today reigns in the form of religious power. It will shortly turn to Politics which is the source of its birth. Just study the way they elected the last pope. Are they according to any Christian norms? That was purely the continuation of Roman Kingdom.
