ok, it has happen to you or someone you know...same gift is received from a person A that the recipient B had given to A in the past. What do you think? Have you been person A or person B?

Do you think a gift is something the recipient could do anything with it they want even throw it away?

Absolutely!.Once given it's no longer yours.I know my sister has given me something she received. Some times you just get stuff you won't use so why not give it to someone who can enjoy it.

When you give a gift, you have to let it go and let that person do anything he or she would like to with it, including exchanging it, selling it, giving it away, or throwing it away. If it is truly a "gift" it now belongs to that person.

That said, how you handle gifts given to you can either build bridges and strengthen relationships or drive wedges and weaken relationships. Often people are very connected to the gifts they give.

Being a very practical person, I used to exchange any gift that I felt I couldn't really use or that might take up too much space in my home. I figured the money could be better spent and that when someone offered me the receipt, they wanted to give me that option. Over time, I found that, though some would tell me to feel free to return something, many times doing just that resulted in hurt feelings. Now, unless I know for certain that the person is really okay with me making an exchange, I keep a gift even if I think I might not use it or would use something else more. I exchange only things that don't fit or are duplicates of something I already have.

So while I recognize that the gift is now mine and I could do whatever I wish with it, I try to stand on the side of caution, recognizing that what I do with a gift can have some effect on the giver.

Regifting, if done correctly (obviouly not giving back to the person you received it from!), is fine.

Yes, after receiving a gift, the recipient may do anything they want with it, including give it away, throw it away, or donate it to charity.

My sister does this all the time. It's called "re-gifting". I'm not crazy about the idea but as long as I get something I can use and it's not something I originally gave her, I'm fine with it. I personally don't do it because it involves putting a post-it on it saying who it was originally from then tucking it away in the closet. I don't have that kind of time....

I have done that and had someone do it to me, and it doesn't bother me at all. If I am given a gift that I already have, or something I can't use, I give it away to someone who might want it or need it. If not, I donate it because there's a lot of people out there who can't afford to buy things they need.

I have never been person B, but I have been person A. Sometimes people give ugly presents, and you don't want to make them feel bad, so you accept them. I keep them and give them away as gifts to other people or I sell them on eBay.

POST IT NOTES!!!!!
put it on the gift you're not really able to use - who gave and where/when. this way you can make sure you don't re-gift in the same company.
the item is yours to do with as you wish. sorry but i don't see anything wrong with the process.

Yes, you may recycle but give it to a person who will never know about it's past and the giver also won't know it's new owner. Recycle smart!!!!

regifting is not a good idea. you could offend the person who gave you the original gift AND offend the person you passed the gift on to if they found out. i think it's because you really didn't put any thought into the gift you were giving. you just gave it to get rid of it.
