Hi, i've got a 1 1/2 old male pomeranian, and i just got a 4 month old male pomeranian, i've heard it's dangerous to have two males, since they can fight each other and really hurt themselves, is this true?, should i give back the new one?, or what steps should i take to prevent this?

You will not be able to "prevent" same sex aggression it just happens and yes they most likely will fight at some point.
Poms are stubborn little assertive dogs. They both will want to be top dog and at one point or another you will have a fight.
If you want a companion for you dog get a spayed female and things should be fine. The best combination of dogs is always one of each sex with the both neutered or spayed.

Not true, you never know how two animals of any sex will get along. (IE my male cats love other males, but have nothing to do with females)

Your best bet is to try the situation out and you should be able to tell by your dogs actions if there is going to be a serious issue. Understand though, there is an adjustment period and your dog may be upset with a new puppy around.

Some dogs gladly accept new members of the family, others will not, You never know how your dog will react.

No you shouldn't give back the puppy. I've' had several intact males living together with no problems. It all depends on the dogs' temperaments, training and whether or not they consider you the pack leader.

Is your older male neutered? Is he well socialized and dog friendly? If so, since you brought in the new one as a young puppy, they should be fine. You might want to consider having both neutered if not already. Make sure your older pom gets lots of attention from you so he doesn't feel jealous of the puppy - greet him first, feed him first, etc.

I would think any two dogs would have the possibility of fighting. Not just male & male. Introduce the new dog slowly to the older dog (30 minutes here, 20 minutes there). See how they interact. If you see signs fo agression, seperate them.

If they don't get along, find a new home for the newer dog. Not the older one because you can give them anxiety for abandoning them. The newer puppy might not notice the change in locale.

Good luck

I have Pomeranians. Your older boy will probably assert his established position and dominance on your new baby, so please be careful about that. They will get along just fine provided you do not introduce an unspayed female into the home. If you observe signs of any type of aggressive behavior between them, and have no intention of breeding, then having them neutered will help tremendously.

I have 4 Male dogs, they get along just fine. One of them is a Pom. Poms are not known for being very dominant so I believe your dogs will be just fine as long as you are there to mediate and keep them seperated when you are not home. Atleast until your puppy is a little older.

I don't know about those dogs inparticular but I would just expose them to one another and see how it goes. You should be able to tell right away if they will tolerate each other or not.
