He is an average reader, still prefers to be read to. I would like him to read more on his own though. We have a couple Magic Treehouse...What are some other good ones? He can't wait till he can read the bigger ones with dragons and magic... are there any like that that are smaller chapter books? Thanks:)

If he is reading at a 3rd grade level, type "3rd grade AR list" into Google and you'll get a bunch of hits of books on the third grade reading level.

EDITED TO ADD:
I forgot the A to Z Mysteries. He likes those too.
Also....
Boxcar Children
Bobsey Twins

He sounds like my 8 year old daughter - still not quite into reading to herself. Have you read the Spiderwick Chronicles? Short chapter books about magic. Some dark themes and a tiny bit of language (they say cr*p). My daughter loves them. We just started the Clemency Pogue Fairy Killer series - the chapters are very short, for kids who are ready for more exciting stories but not yet able to sit and read for long periods of time. Again, they're about magic. I can't give you an opinion on the content since we just started them, so you might want to read one first before you give it to your son. Both these series are along the lines maturity-wise of Lemony Snicket - which I wasn't crazy about. I got tired of those poor kids and their rotten luck. lol But lots of kids do love the Series of Unfortunate Events. Then there's Goosebumps - lots of kids love those. The writing's not terrific but kids like the spooky stories and I actually prefer them to Magic Treehouse (never liked Jack and Annie much lol).

I looked at publishers websites- Random House, etc... And found a couple that might be good- Andrew Lost: about a boy and (sister?) have scientific adventures like being shrunk and getting in a dogs nose--eww; Marvin Redpost: supposedly hilarious adventures in classroom and home; A to Z Mysteries; Nate the Great: more mystery; Sammy Keys: more mystery; RL Stine-Mostly Ghostly: they look a bit easier than goosebumps? And the others people have previously posted look good too!! Good luck to you and yours:)

certain, it does ensue, fairly if the boy (or lady) is fairly not watching for the swat because they have under no circumstances easily had one before. this is the perfect straw in forcing a baby to be and do as they might want to even as they prefer something else. Is it recommend? No, mandatory. better a mild swat or 5 at 5 than an adolescent on drugs or locked up for malicious mischief because he has never been managed. maximum of human beings that pontificate that the youngster might want to co as requested out of love have under no circumstances raised a baby and had to handle conventional rebel.

Goosebumps are great. The Hardy Boys and The Box Car Children are some of my kids favorites.

You already have lots of good replies, but no one seems to have suggested Roald Dahl. The BFG is wonderful to read aloud. Slightly naughty, but kids love that.
