Hello I'm sending this from Tokyo Japan. I sometimes see the sign "John 3:16" at baseball and football games. Why do people show that sign during a sport event? I heard it has to do with Christianity and I am not all that familiar with Christianity. I'm just very curious why people show that sign during sports games.

john 3:16 - for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to die on the cross, that whosoever believeth in him shall not parish but have eternal life.

there is probably other reasons for people displaying this verse, but its one of the most well known verses in the bible and talks about gods love towards us.

as to why ist at football games - perhaps to remind the players that regardless of win/loss he still loves you. some play with it and substitute john for another persons name (im not sure why). that is a good question why people display this verse at games.

John 3:16 is a verse in the Bible that pretty much sums up salvation.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

The signs are shown as witness to salvation.

The gist is whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Basically the message is (in relation to sports anyway) if things look bleak for your team, believe in God and you can still overcome your opponent.
