are in litres and others in gallons. Some soda, wine, hard liquors and now ice cream are sold in litres but gas, milk, beer and juices are sold by ounces and gallons. Yet NOTHING is sold in kilos or grams (except drugs, so I am told)

Back in the 70s the government TRYED to force people to use the metric system but it didn't work, gas was being sold in liters but since no one could convert liters to gallons they thought they were getting cheated at the pumps.

Liquor was legally changed to be sold by liters instead of in American units of measurement.
That stayed, gas didn't. Many Americans saw it
as a move towards communism since mostly communist ountrys used the metric system. It also took away from our identity as a country since we had our own system.

Liquid is sold but the area it takes to fil a particular container. In the 1960's Coke and Pepsi did research into the fesability of the gallon but the plastic in the 2 liter was far more expensive than that of the plastic and a milk jusg and it just didnt appeal to people. Even numbers seel henche the 1 gallon thats been traditional back when in france a gallon of milk was partially currency used to pay house debt. Some ice cream is still measured in gallons but the tick is the eyes 2 liters seem to be more than 1 gallon they charge more when accually 2 gallon is more than 2 liters.
