The pride you feel and the feeling of having honor is an indescribable feeling that is absolutely wonderful. You don't need recognition or medals or trophies to feel this and know that you did something good to help others (which is the typical act associated with honor). But have you ever gotten a trophy and didn't feel like you deserved it or even did absolutely nothing to deserve it? Recognition for something without deserving it necessarily makes the recognition worthless. On the other hand, obtaining the privelige of being honored (or being honerable) is a much more desired thing than a stupid trophy or medal that means absolutely nothing by itself.
Honor truely is better than honors.

It's better to be an honorable person than one who is lacking in integrity and honor, even though the latter may receive many awards and recognition for his/her accomplishments.

In other words, don't be a "Glory Hound". Feel proud about a job well done, but don't EXPECT to be recognized for your effort.

it is better to do something when it's right,
even if you won't be recognized for it.
