I'm sure this has been asked. I like paper so my groceries don't roll all over the back of my car. I also use them over for many many other things.

While I also prefer it, plastic is better for putting recycling in until you put it in the curbside can - that's because the dripping from the containers will not soak thru plastic. Besides for that, some may get offended that a tree had to be cut down (I am not a nazi on that) to get the bag in the first place. The answer is it actually takes more energy to make the plastic and that adds to global warming, so there is no right answer. But the stores prefer you to use plastic because it is cheaper and takes less room to store - plus bags give paper cuts and take more time/energy by the employee to open up prior to filling.

Personal taste. Don't sweat the small stuff.

I ask for paper in plastic...like you I use the paper ones for many other things and I like the plastic over because it's easier to carry with the little plastic handles. I also use the plastic ones for lots of other things too. This way in getting the best of both!!!!

I have a plastic collapse-able crate type box that saves on paper and plastic bags from the shops at least.
We have a tax of 15c (Euro) per bag for all plastic bags in this country, that helps with the "choice".

I always request plastic. Because I use them in all the wastebaskets in my home. I find tons of uses for them.

The paper ones are ok, but I find that I can only use them in my garden for mulch.

Tie the plastic bags lightly closed before you place them in your trunk and the stuff won't fall out.

Paper. It is a safer way of recycling and the bags stay put when placed in the back of the car.

Yes, plastic bags can be used for many other things. BUT, plastic never goes away. Those of us who recycle practically everything, are very concerned about what goes into our landfills. And plastic items occupy space and "never" go away.

Paper, I use the bags to recycle by newspapers and junk mail. It's much easier than trying to tie them with string.
