Why did Jesus have to die so brutally? I watched the Passion of the Christ and wept through the whole thing. Why did it have to be that way?

Oh, I know it wasn't by accident. I know he had to die. Did it break God's heart to see His Son die like this?

It had to be that way because the punishment for your sins, my sins and the sins of the world is death. Jesus allowed himself to take on the punishment for not only my sins and your sins, but everyone's sins. That is why the punishment had to be so brutal. The Passion didn't even come close to protraying the true suffering of Jesus Christ. Even so, I wept too.

It was no accident that Jesus died a horrible death. While most people, even non Christians, know the 23rd Psalm, very few know the 22nd Psalm. The 22nd Psalm was written by King David about 1,000 years before Jesus was born to Mary.
Many events which occurred the day Jesus was crucified were prophesied in the 22nd Psalm. And then there is Isaiah chapter 53, which predicted that beating with the words, "by his stripes we are healed." The prophet Isaiah lived about 800 years before Jesus was born. How did King David and Isaiah know what to write? God told them what to write. Isaiah was also the first to write that the earth is round.
We know today that crucifixion on a Roman cross was the most painful and cruel method of capital punishment ever created.
Our sins are so horrible that God picked the very time for Jesus to live and die for our sins at that period of time when this most cruel form of punishment was being used.
Remember Jesus did NOT die by accident. Jesus death did NOT surprise God. Jesus was born so that He could die for our sins. Anyone who calls a Jewish person a Christ killer does not understand very much about the Bible or why Jesus was born.
Jesus was and is God in human form. He could have stopped those Roman soldiers if He wanted to. But He didn't because He loved us so much.
God began to reveal His plan to have Jesus die for our sins in the 3rd chapter of Genesis.
The Passover Lamb is a picture showing us how Jesus Christ would someday lay down His life for you and for me.
I hope that answers your question. God Bless You.

To put it in a nutshell (if that is possible):
Jesus, being the only begotten Son of God, "God in the flesh" represented the powers of good and righteousness;
The Jews represented the apostate religious establishment who had been given a privileged position in the world by being the recipients and guardians of the Word of God, the Old Testament of The Bible;
The Roman authorities represented the political powers of the world of the Gentiles (every other nation that was not of the Hebrew/Israelite/Jewish nation);
Both the Jews and the Romans were, at the time of Jesus' crucifixion, empowered by the Satan, or powers of evil and unrighteousness who tried to annihilate the only begotten Son of God who had come to be the vicarious, atoning sacrifice to fulfill the Old Testament law; to be ridiculed, scorned, and crucified; to be buried for three days; to arise from the grave of death triumphant over sin, death, and the grave; to ascend into heaven to re-take His rightful seat on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
ALL IN FULFILLMENT OF BIBLE PROPHECY!
Jesus came the first time as a suffering servant to redeem the world from sin;
He is coming back again as a kingly Messiah to finish fulfilling the Bible Prophecies which have not yet been fulfilled!
Every prophecy which the Apostles assert Jesus fulfilled by His life, death, burial, and resurrection, were ALL FULFILLED LITERALLY!
And there is every reason to believe that the other prophecies relating to His second coming should be fulfilled in like manner: LITERALLY!
These are not popular explanations, but they are Biblical explanations. Early in its history, the church intermingled the same interpretative methods which had infiltrated the Jewish synagogues and temple during the period of the second Jewish temple, Zerubbabel's temple; the interpretive methods of the ancient mystery religions which was to interpret ALL sacred writings in an allegorical/figurative/symbolic way. The result was that all religions, including Christianity could then be viewed as "equal"; relativism set in and has been alive and well ever since.

That was considered the worst possible way to die at that time. It would hold the most meaning. It also takes away any doubt that He did die. Anyone surviving the original time on the cross, would die shortly after. Even if they had lived, they would be horribly deformed by the trauma. The Apostles saw Jesus multiple times after this event, and He was alive and covered in evidence by not deformed. He looked so good they were often described as not recognizing Him at first.

Of course it hurt God, this is why the sky turned black and the veil was torn in the temple. God had to turn away at that moment. Jesus death was so brutal so terrible because nothing of great value can be bought so cheaply. If you watched this movie then you realize how deeply He truly loves you.

That "movie" is nothing but a tool to keep as many as possable from The Truth of The Salvation Message... It had just enough historical fact and Roman catholic deception to make it seem to be what the world percieves is "christian".... I too saw it and I too felt the pain of Jesus... as best a mortal is able to... but I also saw no reson to think this represents The Truth of The Sacrifice That was the Crusifixtion.... Jesus did have to suffer... but the True suffering was the taking of all of the sins of mankind into himself... all sin past, present and future... and to have God leave his body because God can not allow sin in His presence... that was The True suffering of Christ. and that can not be put on any screen no matter how big...

Because of the brutal sins of ours.
If the mere watching made you weep and cry how would the real sufferings would have been?
It had to be that way because it was in God's plan to save us from our sins and make us worthy to His Heavenly Kingdom.

Did you cry at the end of 'Old Yeller', too? Jesus did not die brutally; he did not die at all. He is a myth. Modern biblical scholarship makes a very compelling case for the idea that Jesus never existed... that he was, in fact, entirely fictional.

Because people are violent animals. In Biblical times, it was considered entertainment to watch people fight to the death. Now we use our technology to create such atrocitiesfor entertainment and pretend we are better than the ancients, but we aren't.
Why should ANYONE have to suffer like that? I bet you would have wept just as much if the movie had been about the theif to his right instead. We are a brutal species. :(

I am sorry to say but it appears that you are too emotional being. The way Mel Gibson has potrayed the alleged crucifixion of Jesus christ is just pictureisation and it has no proof whatsoever... You should read this link in detail to know the real thing....
