Philosophy != the study of truths about reality (read "!=" as not equal) -- well, that may be a part of Philosophy. As I recall from my colledge Philosophy courses, it is the study of systems of though including ethics, Philosophy of religion, Logic and others. Asking if Philosophy is more important than religion or faith is like ask "Is Architecture more important than Design or Construction". Hmm, maybe not the best comparision, but what I'm trying to get at is that if you have a religion you have a philosophy the 2 are not mutally exclusive. Granted any given philosophy may exclude religion and/or faith, but Philosophy as a whole does not....

Religion and faith ARE philosophies. And it isn't wise to carry such lofty ideals about philosophy in general. Philosophy is not the search for wisdom, truth, freedom, love, or the american way- it's simply a method of arguing based on logically "true" arguments, which are absolutely not required to be true in practice. For example, Fidel Castro is known to be well able to justify his most heinous crimes philosophically. Saddam Hussein and George Bush Jr. have both done the same.

actually, you use philosophy to study theology...eg. Thomas Aquinas. he proved the existence of God through rationalization in his book. not sure if it's Summa Theologica.
