For those of you that do, how do you ease your guilt. Today is the fourth day I've missed from work and can't help but feeling like I'm letting the others down at the job. I know that's it's probably better that I don't spread what I have. And that I should return when better, so that I can give my 100 percent. But how do deal with those thoughts that tell you you're being weak, just go in and tough it out, they depend on you and now you're letting them down?
What has worked for you?
BTW, growing up neither of my parents ever missed a day of work for any reason.

If I'm really sick, I feel no guilt whatsoever. They don't need my germs, they don't need my sniffling and whining, and I'm not really all that useful anyway.

If I'm well enough to dance or run errands, then I'm well enough to come in the next day, and I do it.

Calling in sick because you have a cold is an action of a responsibe and prudent person. So, you shouldn't feel guilty. You're right in saying that you don't want to spread your illness. That's the number one reason. The other is , you wont' be as productive at work
as when you're not sick. You shouldn't be hard on yourself with these feelings of quilt Don't compare yourself to your parents. You can't help it if your immune system is compromised. One advice though, take Vit C every day,1000mgm and colds and you will become strangers. I've been taking it for a long time and hardly get sick with colds or the flu.

Well, you do what you have to do. Sometimes, even a cold can cause a lot of trouble for you, and you just need to rest so you can get better.

If your motives are right - if you're staying home because you really feel it's what you need to do, and not because you want a day off, I don't think you should worry.

If i am really sick, then no, not only will it be better for me to stay home and get well, but I also dont want to pass on a nasty cold to my coworkers.

Now if I have the can flu, then I feel bad, I cannot stay home no matter how bad my hangover is.

I think this is more of an ethics question..i dont think guilt over missing work is religious..you probably just feel lazy...which if you not sick...your being lazy..especially if you are just sitting on the computer all day

I'd rather have you stay home than have you come in and spread it to everyone else. If you don't stay home and rest, the cold takes longer to go away.

No, unless I'm staying home without really having a cold.

I hardly ever miss, so I don't feel guilty when I do. I would prefer if sick people stayed home anyway. So I don't get the crap.
