I admit that I just don't like chain restaurants. I like supporting local restaurants owned by local people. Restaurants that are unique and have a lot of character. I think dining and eating out should be a cultural experience and not a corporate one. Even though I prefer independants, Applebees really is horrible!!! I have been there a few times against my will. The quality of food there is really poor. Applebees could be a lot better if their food was fresh, but it always seems dirty to me. Chili's is simply better quality, but not that much better.
I have no idea where you are from, but support your local neighborhood diner/pub. I'm sure places like Applebees, but independent exist where you live. Independant restaurants, though you don't know what to expect, are better at taking a chance on dinner than chains. The reason why is that it is difficult for big national chains to get fresh premium quality ingredients ordered for all their restaurants.

Chili's is better for the younger crowd, it seems. Every time I've been to an Applebee's, there have been several loud, uneducated people over 50 smoking and watching sports games on television.
The food is similar at both places, but there are a few key differences. The cheesesticks and chicken sandwiches are better at Chili's, but I'm pretty sure Applebee's is the only one of the two that offers quesadillas.

I like them both but if I had to choose just one I guess I would go with Applebees, because there are only two different meals that I will order at Chili's. Applebees has more things that I like.

Applebees cause i worked at Chilis and the way they treat their staff sux!!! But the only applebees by my house is like 30 min away, and if i am going to go out to eat it will be close!

Applebees! Wasn't Chili's involved in a situation where a patron or patrons got food poisoning?

Chili's mainly because I worked at Applebees in the past, and really didn't like the experiance with the franchise, & also now that they have changed their menu yet, agian, I like it kinda isn't as good anymore either.
