what could this be?

i will give you some backround about Nermal.
she is short haired and about 4 mo. old. We found her wandering outside 2 months ago and took her in. we have 1 other cat, he is 6 mo. and they are friends.
normally her poopy is skinny and hard, lately it is runny and full of thick clotted blood and mucus and stinks more than usual. she also has awful breath, when youre petting her you think she's just farting but when she yawns or meows close to your face u know its her breath.

she doesnt seem to be in any pain, eats normally and is playful. I read online that it is most likely worms, so i bought her de-worming medication but havent given it to her yet. my question is, am i right is it worms, and, is she too young for the medication? will it hurt her?

could it be other things? and my last question - are worms contagious, could she give it to the other cat?

thanks!!!

i noticed that one person who breeds cats said that the brightness or darkness of the blood can indicate where the blood is coming from and how serious the problem is. but, what if the blood is only dark because it is clotted? it is bright red elsewhere and throughout other areas when it is not clotted.

If this happened to you, you would be at the emergency room by now. Cats can be hard to treat and many things present the same way. Now be a good human and put a poo in the baggie and take the kitty to the vet, have the poo and blood work tested and get a physical examination too. I thought it was nothing, then my best friend died of cancer cause I was too busy to go to the vet. had that cat 11 years, vet said if treated we would have had many more years together.

If the blood in the feces is dark it has come from further up int he digestion tract and is old blood. This is worrysome beacues it could be coming from the stomach.. Bright red blood tinge is most likely caused from the strain of expelling and is probably not serious. Bad breath like that is probably from her cleaning her rear, especially if she has the runs. The vet will be able to give you some biosol to help with loose stools. Finding the cause is a different matter. Change in diet? Do not de-worm unless you have evidence of worms. The vet may require a stool sample...but this sounds like she has a tummy bug. If she is running a fever or uncomfortable in ANY way take her in now. If it is just a little blood and her bum is irritated it's probably from a hemmerhoid situation from straining. Without seeing your cat I cannot venture to guess.

TAKE HER TO THE VET. Anytime there is blood in the stool, that's a really bad sign, especially if it's clotting first. Seriously, get that cat some help.

Worms are most definetly contagious. They prefer to travel by feces, and their eggs do too. All 100,000 of them.

This sounds more serious then worms. Before you worm a cat you need to know what type of worms if any the cat has, This cat needs a vet ASAP

Take her to the vet!!In my semi proffessional opinion(not finished vet tech) it's either a parasite or a gastro infection, but anything is possible considering she was a stray.Even though you kitty is still playful, she could still be in a lot of pain...please don't self diagnose your pet,you really need a full professionals opinon. If you live in montreal,I could refer you to a really good doctor, who doesn't charge much.Good luck!

Do not self diagnose your cat or medicate her without knowing what's wrong with her. Take her to a VET-she could be seriuosly ill.

....and why are you online asking stupid questions when you should be taking your cat to the vet?

Only a trained medical professional will have the knowledge and tools (x-ray, etc.) to accurately diagnose your pet, and to treat whatever is wrong.
