limping or pain in the back legs is a sign of kidney problems please find a way to take your cat to the vet he may be suffering and you need to monitor his litter box habits (if he is urinating) this could be fatal please dont wait see if your vet will work out a payment plan with you

No, no and no again. You can kill your cat in 24 hours with just a small aspirin. Pain meds have to be gotten through veterinarian's. For many years they did not even have pain medication for cats that wasn't poisonous for them. Dogs have always had pain meds which helped and their systems could tolerate.

I am sorry that you have to see your cat suffer and I hope you can beg, borrow or steal some funds so that a vet can find out for you what is wrong.

For $20 you can get a bottle of Rescue Remedy at a health foods store. It can help with pain. You just shake the bottle well and put three or four drops on the cat's fur between his ears. You can treat him many, many times. It cannot possibly do him any harm.

No, you can cause more harm than good, call your local animal control or humane society and see if they can refer you to a low cost vet or a vet that accepts payment plans,

Many medications are available without a prescription. These are referred to as “over-the-counter” medications and include treatments for headaches, stomachaches, stuffy noses, diarrhea and pain. They are sold in grocery stores, pharmacies or convenience stores.

It is quite tempting to give some of this medication to your pet. After all, if it helps you feel better, it is bound to help your pet. Wrong. Your pet’s metabolism and organs function a little differently, and medication that may greatly improve your symptoms may be toxic to your pet.

Never give any medication without approval from your veterinarian. It’s true that many medications available for people can help animals, but you must be careful to give the correct medication at the proper dose. It is important that you consult you’re your veterinarian to avoid serious effects from overdose or toxicity of medications.

Some of the most common over-the-counter medications can result in serious illness if not used properly. Medications may include:

Pseudoephedrine
Aspirin

Acetaminophen

Ibuprofen

Imodium®

Diphenhydramine

Naproxen

There are a variety of signs of toxicity that depend on the type of medication taken. Hyperactivity, vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding stomach ulcers, blood disorders, constipation, liver damage and kidney damage are just a few of the complications that have been associated with improper use of over the counter medications.

To avoid these problems, consult your veterinarian before giving any medicine. Even if your pet has successfully taken the medication in the past, check with your veterinarian first. This time, the dose may be different or that particular drug may not be best choice.

OTC human pain medication is TOXIC to cats. See the vet. The pain meds would not be fixing the problem anyway, just masking it. Let the cat rest and see if it gets better in 24 hours. If not, see a vet.

I advise you to go see a vet if you really want your cat to be pain-free. Your vet could prescribe your cat with a variety of medicines such as Carprofen which is commonly prescribed for Musculoskeletal and arthritic pain, or ketoprofen which is used for moderate pain and inflammation, or Meperidine to name a few. You can not recieve these medications without a prescription from a veterinarian. The vet may want to do an x-ray. People are always strongly advised not to get a pet if you cannot provide proper care for the animal. Just my two cents.

Humans and animals are different in their response to medications. Aspirin and Tylenol are deadly for cats.

I use Mobic for my Bernese mountain dog... but can't recommend that for a cat.
