Walk, walk, walk and walk the dog some more. If you dont have time to walk your dog that much you can buy tredmills for dogs on the internet. Feed your dog food that is low in fat and ver high in protein.

Some more information would be helpful. What breeds (ie sizes, energy level), age, and current physical condition?
I am getting ready to train my GSD for an AD title - a 12 mile jog, for them. I start out the first week with short little runs interspersed with LONG (at least 1 mile) walks. Then we move to jogging on asphalt, trying more than anything to condition the pads for the long run. I never do the whole twelve miles at once because the test requires 2 rest stops during it. It takes me 3 to 4 months to get to being Near ready for the AD title.

We run both our show and field trial dogs in order to improve their physical condition. There is no alternative to running.
Conditioning a dogs coat is very dependent on what breed. What is proper for one breed can be completely wrong for another. About every National Breed club produces material on how they should be groomed.
For training show dogs I recommend joining an "All breed dog club" (they host the dog shows). These clubs almost always put on handling classes. Even tho' we are third generation show people, we still always take our young dogs to these classes (and it does make a difference)

The best thing that you can do is to primp and care for it the best you can. There is also many books published about showing your dog. You can also check out this web site www.akc.org I hope that this helps.

bout three times per week. For our hunters we keep them going all year long and in top form by running them in the fields about three times per week. We scent train with them at least twice per week and they fetch and do blind retreives almost every day.
They eat on a schedule and a measured amount and are weighted once per week to make sure they are the same weight.
If they are water dogs they get to swim about once per week or twice if I can fit it in my schedule.

Well if you are talking about a conditioner that you use after you shampoo, the conditioner helps keep the dogs skin from becoming too dry.
