Does anyone know of a good term for a woman that is not derogatory, but not girly like 'chick' or 'gal'?

I'll add some detail...

...it's for me to end an e-mail to a work mate, I was thinking something like; from the random bint from work...but only without the 'bint' part.

So....from the random bird from work, from the random broad from work, from the random chick from work....etc.

Slang Names For Women

Derogatory terms vary from each person. Some names women think of as derogatory I just don't get it. For me the only name that I could be called is the "C" word.
I call my girl friends chicks, girlys, chicas, and sometimes we call each other the "B" word just as our inside joke. Many women would find that offencive. I don't as long as its coming from my friends. If it comes from other people I would definally come back with a slap or punch. You may try...

Lady
Ma'am
Miss, Ms, or Mrs (depending on status)

this is harder then I thought...

I don't know that there are slang terms for women that are not derogatory in some way or another, just because most we've either come to see as "bad words" or because they are diminutive. There's really no way to win, our language pretty much tells us it's not okay to be a woman.

Doris.
I knew a guy that called all women Doris.
It was so he didn't get any names mixed up and give himself away as he dated more than one girl at a time.
Pidge is another term that a male friend of mine used to use (short for pidgeon, which is in turn a bird!)
It was much more endearing than BIRD!

If you're worried about derogatory or inappropriate slang for a female then I would just stick to calling them mate, far simpler.

Is lady too girly? Probably. Um, female? I think if I had more details (like the setting/context) it may help.

Thanks for the added details. How close are you to this person. My close friends & I use the term Goddess. If that is just TOO MUCH, I like the suggetions for "Shelia".

Haha, use bint, it's a great word!

Thank you Monty Pythion for teaching it to me...

If not, try 'mare'. It's a Westcountry word. A 'dappy mare' is a stupid woman. LOL
