Absolutely WRONG. You can convert to Hinduism anytime anywhere but only difference is Hindus don't cram their religion down your throat like Christianity and Islam.

Some of the replies above are showing there miserable level of Ignorance about Hinduism.

Caste system (corrupted Varna system) was a social problem and it exist in all religions in India including minority Christianity and Islam. surprised? Yes its true and now it is BANNED in India. Can anyone ban anything Hinduism in Hindu dominated India...no but it is banned because it was a social problem.

In Hinduism it is Varna system which is nothing but advise to people that they should carefully choose their life carrers because basically 4 types of nature exist in people...one who is inclined towards deep Spirituality like Yogis and preists, another towards Military and defence like american army, another towards Business like Bill gates and last towards doing work for others like Doctors , musicians like Bryan adams etc. So you see these 4 Varnas (Nature) are universal and no healthy society can exist without them. Hinduism says After carefully inspecting your nature (Varna) we should choose our lifes path and should never go against our nature if you want to succeed in life. That means Hinduism provides complete freedom of Varnas which is based on Nature of Human and NOT on birth.

No. That is the problem with Hinduism. Just like all other religions have their own vices, that was hinduism. The Christians can be dogmatic same for the Jews. The Muslims are too extreme and imposing while the Buddhists dont define good. This allows those Hollywood types to feel better about their decadence.

To the point... there is no religion that doesnt have some problems... Not allowing people in if they are not born into a caste is the Hundus.

once you're a Hindu asserting this then you of course have not understood Hinduism. Hinduism is pluralist meaning that there are a number of counsel on a thank you to think of of God. So interior the eyes of Hinduism each and every direction to God is equivalent and bonafide.

I am appalled at the ignorance expressed by some people who answered this question. Hinduism always accepted newcomers and converts. For more information, please take a look:

in my opinion Hinduism is not a religion it self. in that are several castes worshiping several forms like snakes, trees, rivers also as gods. each caste is a religion itself. a brahmin can embrace Islam and can be called a Muslim. but where as in Hinduism case a christian can not convert into Hinduism because of caste problem . i do not think there is any religion other than Hinduism which can be embraced by people belonging to other religions.

Actually I doubt that anyone wants to convert to Hinduism...I mean they cause environmental disasters everytime they have an occasion..the recent Ganesha festival involving dipping of Ganesha idols in water...I mean Hindus pour their dead relatives ashes in the Ganges thinking it is holy, they bathe and do their businesses all in one place...correct me if I'm mistaken but what true religon would involve polluting of the environment that sustains them...and also slim 1234 what your friends boyfriend told was wrong you dont have to be born Muslim to be a true Muslim...Hes the ignorant one...If he was a true Muslim why would he have a GF...get the picture...also people who still discriminate on the basis of caste are fools living in the past...I know a couple of Brahmins...one of them is this egoistic fool and the others aint too bad...so step into the real world...In the world of today you are not who you were born as, But what you were born to become.....

I may be wrong, but I believe Muslims believe that you have to be born Muslim to be a true Muslim (I had a friend who wanted to convert, and that is what her Muslim boyfriend told her).

I apologise to any Muslims out there for my ignorance if this is not the case.
