I am a 23 yr old woman who has had 5 kidney infections in the past 8 months. Each is accompanied by severe upper abdominal pain (right under diaphram), migraines, and severe dizziness and fainting. I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis, and no doctor has tested kidney function any further. What could be the underlying cause (s) that I should research and talk about with my doctors?

(I am sexually active with one completely monogamous partner, and I urinate after sex, everytime, and have only had a handful of partners in my life)

You need to be checked for kidney stones. You should still get tested regularly for stds. They can take several months to show signs.

MYS SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO TELL YOUR DR YOU WANT FURTHER TESTING AND IF HE/SHE WONT, GET A 2ND OPINION

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

You probably have some type of kidney disorder. I suggest you tell your doctor that you want further testing, a kidney function test.
I have been told now people can request tests from their doctors now if they feel the need.

the same thing happened to me last year. While I have only had one, I just wanted to say OMG.. i feel so bad for you!! its so painful!

When you visit the doctor, are you asked to do a urine sample for him? Reason I ask is that Kidney Function Tests can be done with urine. The more protine your kidneys spill, the worse they are.

If you want to ease your mind a little, there are these little strips called Keratine strips *i think* they are sold in a brown bottle at any drug store. Over the counter.. near the at home drug test kits.

Anyway, you pee in a cup, dip the strip, and based on the color it turns you will know if you are spilling protien. It will show what is normal, and what is not.

Good luck ... lots of hugs to you.. jeez.. i coulnt imagine!

PUSH for additional urinary system testing as the urinary system and the GI sysytem can aggrivate one another. My son has recurring Urinary problems that have few symptoms until the GI trac gets angry. The docs treat the GI symptoms and we end up back before too long with the same symptoms and often a UTI (urinary trac infection). Prolonged, untreated infections can damage the urinary system. Once we gat his Urinary system setteled, his GI symptoms settled as well. Good Luck.
