Tell him to get down, if that doesnt work, get a ladder and climb up and pull him out, if you dont have a ladder or are afraid of heights. Tell them that you are going to get the cops to come up and get him. Most kids I know are scared of the police, because they think that they are gonna go to jail or get in trouble. Plus I know this because, my cat got stuck in a tree and we called the cops, they called the fire department, and they climbed up and got him out. =) Hope this helps you!

Stop worrying I've never seen the skeleton of a 5 year old in a tree...this goes for cats too

He knows that you can't make him come down, hopefully he's safe, go inside and let him come down by himself. When he's down then talk to him about the behavoir and the consequences that will follow if he does it again. Next time make sure you follow through with whatever consequences you have arranged before.
He's looking for attention or a way not to get in trouble, don't give him the attention until he comes down and make sure he gets in trouble when he's down...it will stop

Who's in control here? You or the kid. Get off your lazy butt and make sure the kid doesn't climb the tree in the first place. Great mothering there.

well if he knows how to get down, you just walk away and he'll get down on his own...Kids like attention and everytime he climbs that tree and wont come down he's doing it getting that attention. Sometimes its tough but you have to walk away...He got up there he will come down, Hes going to get thirsty and hungry up there but hey thats how kids learn
