Yes, I believe that it is. From fundamentalism comes fanaticism and what usually follows is a delusion that they have been chosen to cleanse the world of those who do not believe as they do. On a smaller scale this can translate into our current problem in this country of the Xtian fundamentalist's attempt to turn a democratic republic into a theocracy. If you don't think that can turn to violence, remember the 60's. In the South it was largely religious fanatics that carried placards and marched against desegregation, right next to the KKK, which also was bloated with its own version of what was right per the Bible. Religious fanatics used the Bible shamelessly to support their bigotry. Much as they do now when addressing the current issue of same-sex marriage.

In a word - YES

ok, i need more than a world. Its an interesting debate on whether society as a whole would be better without religion. For example, now most of the problems in the middle east are over religion. Who's holy ground is this, timeless problems with jews and muslims. The wars involving U.S is essentially a war of Christians vs Muslims. They can dress it up however they want but the only reason U.S attacking arab countries is due to intolerance or lack of understanding of another country. Not to mention all the problems in America from overzealous Christians trying to force their will into politics and barracading scientific (life saving) advances because their particular scriptures may not approve.

You have to question the mental stability of anyone that says "this is how it is. i have no factual proof of anything other than something someone I never met may have written thousands of years ago. I can only assume I am right and anyone with an opinion other than mine is wrong. I cant budge or even try to empathize. Its my way or nothing."

sorry, now i need to step off my soapbox myself

fundamentalism is a danger....when people are so closed that only their thoughts and ideas have value and truth then the outcome can only be negative....does not have to be just religious fundamentalism.....that philosophy anywhere is dangerous.....reminds me of middle school students joining a fight against another student because they dress differently, or be cause she said he said this so everyone has to hate him.....

Any time you have any religion, there are going to be a faction that turns fanatic. A little bit of Religion is like a little bit of syphilis, unless eradicated, it always gets worse.

There is nothing wrong with fundamentalism in religion. This means that the followers are more orthodox in their practice of their religion.

It is the radicals that we need to fear-----------they are the fanatics.
