Just brought a new gme and it keeps crashing. Tested drect3d in the dxdiad window and test 8 and 9 fail, says this!

Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 6 (No hardware supported display modes found): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

Have uninstalled and reinstalled latest versions 3 times!! Any advice or a solution?!?!

I have directx 9c and my video card is: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX with 512mb memory so does not need upgrading for this!

simple,with a card like your g-force should waltz through the dxdiag tests,so in simple terms your card is fualty,and this is the 3rd nvidia card this week i have heard thats defective
the only other solution is to a) if you used the online drivers try using the drivers that came with the card or 2) if you used the drivers that came with the card,try using the most updated drivers possible ...look at http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.47.html
ati cards are much more stable cards,and in my experience they are much better at producing good solid graphics

Probably your graphics card is not supporting directX version 8 or 9. Hardware upgrade advised.
