It all depends on how you prepare it and how much you eat. If you use whole wheat pasta with lower fat sauce, skim ricotta and 2% mozzarella and lean or extra lean ground beef, then it's a healthier version. Pasta itself is not fattening. It's all that is put with it that makes it fattening.

Is Baked Ziti Healthy

In a word, yes. However some changes can be made to reduce the overall amount of fat and calories in baked ziti. I've used part skim ricotta and low fat cheeses, whole wheat or the whole wheat blend pasta, and lean sirloin, or lean ground turkey as the meat. Also, when making a huge pan of this, remember that you need to portion it out properly. 1 cup of cooked pasta has about 180-200 calories plain. Mixed with all the accompaniments the calories add up. I say make it with the reduced fat ingredients and have a reasonable portion of it so as not to deprive yourself of something you like.

It depends on how much cheese you load on it. Pasta and marinara is very low in fat but you if you use cream sauce or cheese sauce or add a ton of cheese before you bake it, you might as well have a double cheeseburger.
