I have heard that they do. In a pack, injured, sick or dying ones remove themselves from the rest of the pack. So, I guess you could say this was hiding. I had a dog who went into a closet, and died there. She had not been well, and the vet said she was not in pain, that she could spend her last days with us @ home.

Some will. If it is your dog I would take it to the vet. It could be something simple that could be fixed in no time and if they are in pain then the vet can help.

Yes, I believe they do. We had a gorgeous Great Pyranese that loved to wander the property to protect us. But, he came home and was found dead under her favorite tree, so I don't know if this is true or not. Just a guess.

Actually an injured or sick dogs tendency is to "den", (find a quiet safe place where they feel secure.)

Yes, they do have a tendancy to do this. Cats also do this. They seem to want to be by themselves.
