Valium is a antidepressant drug, it is given to calm people down, relax them. Yes it is addictive. 40 years ago doctors thought it was the wonder drug. If you went to the doctors feeling a little bit down, or if you had marriage problems, or were stressed caring for the family ,or stressed at work, they would dole out the Valium. Thousands of people got hooked on it. Some 20 years later they realised that Valium was addictive and had long term side affects. They then started to withdraw it, people were weaned off it by gradually reducing the dose until they could manage without it. People had been getting repeat presciptions from their doctors for 20 years. I think it is still used as a mild sedative and relaxant in certain cases, but now they monitor it so people don't become dependant on it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This, along with your other question, is very disturbing.

If you're thinking about overdosing, I'll just say that it's very difficult to overdose on Valium alone. Benzodiazepines are among the least toxic medications in existance.

And benzos can make you depressed as a side effect. The doctor who invented Valium refused to take it himself because it made him depressed.

Valium is used in the treatment of anxiety disorders and for short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety. It belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines.

It is also used to relieve the symptoms of acute alcohol withdrawal, to relax muscles, to relieve the uncontrolled muscle movements caused by cerebral palsy and paralysis of the lower body and limbs, to control involuntary movement of the hands (athetosis), to relax tight, aching muscles, and, along with other medications, to treat convulsive disorders such as epilepsy.

Valium can be habit-forming or addictive. You may experience withdrawal symptoms if you stop using this drug abruptly
