My parents went through a very similiar scenario. I am first generation of my kind in america to be a Khmer-American. Unfortunately history repeats itself and hate continues to devour the world. At the same time we evolve. Ultimately the sacrifice's worth will not be recognized until time passes. As my parents dodged bullets and bombs, witnessed the slaughter of family & friends and survived 2 years of salvery and abuse they too recognized that their country was coming to a very dark age and will not improve for centuries to come. The enemy and ruler of our regime took what he sought and ultimately commited genocide taking over 2 million lives. A country with thousands of mines and missing bodies still buried is still in the progress of initializing civilization after 25 years. (YES, THIS WAS THAT RECENT.) They came across a dead end while bearing an infant and no surviving family. Somehow 2 sponsors found them and were willing in the U.S.. Silver lining. They came, learned the language, applied and obtained citizenship. ( A 2 year process.) Now established and still unfamiliar with a lot of american customs, they are living peacefully, working, but leaving love and life behind in their motherland. I know this is a long a s s story, and I'm sorry that I do not have any suggestions but I wanted to let you know that this has been lived through, and there are plenty that made it through a war to a better place some older than you. I'm sorry for your pain. I hope you the best.

You don't mention if you have a skill or family...
I am sorry for your pain - I have had the same with my country and I left. Maybe you should look at the UK or Canada (look at the Immigration websites) and see if you could be a candidate. But remember, nowhere is perfect

You should probably contact an attorney in the country you want to immigrate to, that specializes in Labor and Immigration. Good luck.

A good immigration lawyer may cost a little more, but can be worth it in efficiency. Money can be regained, time..cannot...the attorney will save you time, which will be in your best interest.

I don't think you will have much luck coming to Canada, you bring no skills, are too old to work and unless you have tons of money you would be a burden to our social security system.
