I have two cats, an adult, and a older kitten. When my adult cat was younger sometimes she would go nutso and just run back and forth in the house and meow. She stopped doing that, but now I'm noticing the kitten does it. It's almost always at the same time of day, 10pm. Do all cats do this? Or do I have psychotic cats?

You gave me a good laugh at this. My cats are now 9 yrs old and one will still do this. It drives the dog crazy to hear the chaos going on upstairs! I really think its just pent up energy, or maybe they are bipolar or something!!

I had a cat for two years, recently I just got a kitten at the pound to be her friend. My older cat looks at the kitten like I use to run around and play with pencils you will grow out of it! My cats do the same thing, but my older cat really does not play like a kitten anymore.

Since cats sleep during the day, they are usually up at night. Part of the reason your kitten may run around like it does is because its a kitten. My cat is psycho too. She will run around all crazy at night sometimes. She drives me crazy to the point that I shut my door and all the other doors in the house. Your not alone. All cats do this. Its annoying untill they grow up. In the meantime have fun. Get some sleep. :-)

Yes, I think about all of them do this. I read in a cat book that indoor cats are releasing sudden bursts of energy that they have built up inside of them that they can't use necessarily cause they are indoor cats. If they were outside then they can run and chase and hunt. It's perfectly normal the book was saying so don't worry. I have several who do this too. I just laugh at them.

I'm pretty sure all cats do this. My cat will run from one room turn around and jet off to another and keep doing it. And I always hear her meowing, but it's at any time of the day. I was just thinking she was lonely becase we recently moved and took her away from our other cat. But we just put it as that she has an imaginary friend that she chases around.

LOL. I have two kittens and they do the same thing. They have their moments where they were drastically run from one end of the apartment to the other chasing each other and jumping on everything. They'll play like that for a few mins and then quiet down and find a random spot to sit and then fall asleep. LOL totally random!

It might be teething, it might be that there is something going on that bothers her. Cats can be bothered by sounds or vibrations that we can't feel. It might also be a smell, maybe your neighbor feeds his animals or cooks at that time of day.

Being as both cats have done it, I would assume that it is an environmental stimulus or a natural growing thing.

Cats are great in that they like to amuse themselves. Maybe it might even be some sort of ritual! My cat sometimes runs up and down the stairs as if she's training for the decathalon!

My cat, 3 years old, does that a couple of times a day.
